Exposure Camps

Safai sathis have been working day in – day out for years at stretch. At Aasra, leisure time is given equal importance. A restroom is specifically dedicated for Safai Sathis to rejuvenate at the dry waste center.

To build onto their competencies of team work, leadership, cognitive skills, physical health and learning a new way of life, exposure camps are organized for Safai Sathis.

A day off

Every year, Aasra Welfare Association organizes a leisure trip to a resort where we have fun games, team bonding activities with the Safai Sathis. All Safai Sathis with their families enjoy a day out, away from waste, happily engaging with nature. There are entertainment shows, magic shows, sumptuous meals with competitions, and handing out gifts to winners.

Understanding complete waste-to-value chain

“What happens to waste after it is sorted?” Safai sathis are doing an immensely important work saving the environment as ‘Invisible Environmentalists’. To build onto their capacity, and bring forth the importance of their work, educational trips are organized to recyclers. The process of recycling a material goes through is shared with them. Their thoughts on the same are compiled and shared with stakeholders. This exchange of reflections helps both parties work hand-in-hand, in a collaborative manner.

Cross-learning visits

Safai sathis from across the country visit Safai Sathis at Aasra Welfare Association. Similarly, Safai Sathis from Aasra visit and interact with Safai Sathis associated with other organizations offline as well as online. They learn about their common problems and ways to deal with the same. They share their joys and happiness and sorrows. They become a larger community that becomes even stronger when together.
