About Us
Aasra Welfare Association (AWA) is a not-for-profit organization working tirelessly for the welfare of waste pickers towards their holistic development through health, education, economic development, and social inclusion. Since its inception, the organization has worked on various distinguished projects concerning waste management. These projects focus on recovering and recycling by diverting waste from landfills, and supporting a circular economy. Aasra Welfare Association provides end-to-end waste management solutions and advocates for the welfare of waste-pickers, aka the safai-sathis.
With over 35+ years of experience in dry waste management, Aasra has built a strong network of recycling and upcycling of materials. The various Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities conducted by Aasra Welfare Association in collaboration with its partner agencies/donors plays a crucial role in inculcating a positive behavior change among citizens, and laying a foundation for the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Our Work
In all its interventions, Aasra Welfare Association emphasizes sustainable development in order to build a better, equitable, and eco-friendly society. We are aware of the plight of waste pickers and the financial and social injustices they have endured over the years. In response to this unmet needs, Aasra was founded by Mr. Haider Ali Sayyed in order to provide the safai sathis a dignified and better quality of life. At the same time, we are trying to provide sustainable waste management solutions, which will fill in the gaps currently present in the urban setup. Dive in to know more about our work.
